English only for now.
OpenFeed is a civic square, not a marketplace for attention. Chronological feeds, no ads, no sale of data. That shapes these rules:
These house rules are community standards for using OpenFeed. The Terms are the contract for the account. The Terms incorporate these house rules by reference. Privacy describes how we process personal data. If a space publishes its own rules, those add local norms on top of this page.
The rules apply to everyone who uses the service: people with an account, guests who read public posts, and space admins. Posting, following, joining, messaging, and reporting require an account.
Use of the site is permitted only in line with these rules. We may block access that breaks them. Reporting in the app goes to platform operators under Art. 16 DSA. When we hide a post we tell the author why (Art. 17 DSA). As a micro-enterprise we are exempt from DSA Chapter III Section 3: there is no trusted-flagger channel, no internal appeals body, and no out-of-court dispute body. Reporting is not a substitute for contacting the police where a crime is involved.
Public is the open square. Anyone with an account can post there. It is not a space with a member directory. Do not treat it as a private group. Search engines may index public posts. Other people can copy, quote, or screenshot them. Deleting a post with us does not remove those copies.
A public space can be joined by anyone with an account until it is full (500 members), closed, or ended. A private space is members only: admins add people by handle. Following someone does not grant access to a private space they belong to.
Posts in a private space stay there. They are not on the open timeline and cannot be reposted or quoted out. Do not copy private-space posts into Public or elsewhere without the author’s clear agreement.
If you lock your profile, your posts, bio, counts, and header image are visible only to you and accepted followers. Strangers still see handle, name, and avatar. Membership of a private space does not bypass a locked profile: co-members still need to be accepted followers to see that author’s posts.
A space may set an optional event window: people can join before it starts; composing is only during the window; joining stops after it ends.
Do not use OpenFeed to do any of the following. We may hide posts that break these rules. Rate limits may apply when an account harms the service or other people.
Adult sexual content is not welcome on the open square and is likely to be hidden by the automated check. Do not use OpenFeed as a place to publish pornography.
You are responsible for what you post, including photos, poll options, ALT text, quotes, and links. Do not post material you do not have the right to share.
When you compose, you may mark a post as sensitive and optionally write a short cover warning. That is a content warning, not a permission slip. It does not make forbidden content allowed, and it does not change who can see the post under space and profile-lock rules.
Everyone, including you, sees the body, photos, poll, and link preview behind a blur until they choose to reveal it. Use the mark when a post may shock or distress people who did not ask for it (for example graphic news). Do not use it to hide rule-breaking content.
These tools are separate. Reporting someone does not ignore or block them. You find them on a post menu or a profile. Undo ignore and block in Settings › Privacy.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Ignore | Hides that person’s posts and reposts from your feeds and notifications. You stay connected. Direct messages still work. Private-space posts from co-members stay visible. |
| Block | Unfollows both ways and cancels pending follow requests. Neither of you can follow or message the other. Posts in a private space you both belong to stay visible. There is no “you are blocked” banner; follow and message simply fail. |
| Report | Signed-in only. You choose a category and write a reason (no file uploads). The report goes to platform operators. We never show the author who reported or their written reason. You get a confirmation that we received it; there is no case-progress inbox. |
Report categories today: illegal content; harassment or hate; spam or scam; impersonation; something else. Guests cannot file a report in the app. If you do not have an account, email dsa@openfeed.eu.
OpenFeed assesses posts partly automatically and partly by people. How that processing works, including what is sent to Mistral, is in Privacy. This section is only what you will notice as a person using the site.
Platform operators who review reports and queues use two-factor authentication. They see private-space text and photos only on an opened case.
OpenFeed is the controller for personal data. Space admins are a community role, not a separate controller. They act inside tools we provide. They cannot rewrite other people’s posts. Platform house rules still apply inside a space.
Admins can edit the name, description, local house rules, colour, and header; pin up to five root posts on that space’s New tab; remove members (including from a public space; those people may rejoin); set roles; cap retention for new posts; set an optional event window; and close the space. The last admin cannot leave, be demoted, or be removed, including while a space is closed.
An admin may close a space. Join and compose stop at once. People who could already see it may still read it for 14 days. After that the space is deleted. Remaining posts in a public space move to Public with the same authors. Remaining posts in a private space are deleted. An admin may cancel the close before that date.
If the last admin’s account is erased and other members remain, the oldest remaining member becomes admin. If nobody remains, the space is closed. If a space has members but no admin, any member may claim admin.
Authors may give a post a lifetime of 24 hours, 30 days, or keep it. A space admin may cap that for new posts in that space. Existing posts are not rewritten when the cap changes. Expired posts are hard-deleted. Public (the open square) does not cap retention.
Direct messages are private between the people in the conversation. The same conduct rules apply: do not harass, scam, or send unlawful content. Blocking someone refuses new messages in both directions. Ignore does not.
We do not send direct-message text to the automated text-moderation processor. You can block the person or report their profile from their profile page. You can also email dsa@openfeed.eu.
OpenFeed is not directed at people under 16. You must confirm you are 16 or older when you register. We do not verify age with identity documents or biometrics.
If you are a parent or guardian and you believe a child under 16 has an account, email privacy@openfeed.eu. We will delete the account and the associated data.
We may amend these house rules. For substantive changes we will inform you in a clear way (for example an in-app notice) with at least 30 days’ notice. The version and date at the top of this page identify the current rules. A change to these rules is a change to the Terms, because the Terms incorporate them.
Use the in-app report flow when you can: it is the fastest way to put a post or profile in the operators’ queue.
